Charleston?

Who knew the outskirts of Charleston, South Carolina looked so much like northern New Jersey. Ahh, memories of home.

    Couple of suggestions for great places to eat in Charleston. In downtown . . .High Cotton at the corner of Cumberland and East Bay (near the Market) was superb. I was also going to suggest Roberts of Charleston . . .they only have about 15 people for dinner in a single seating and the chef (Robert) comes out and sings opera arias during dinner . . .but when I googled their web site for exact location I found out he closed. Stay away from the Vendue Inn which is also near High Cotton . . .I guess it was a good place if you like your duck raw and your scallops turned into jerky.

    If you’re willing to drive for a bit . . .Bowen’s Island is a bit south and there’s this great local seafood place named Bowen’s Island Restaurant. The food is superb but it’s the kind of place that would be featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives . . .definitely don’t wear your Sunday best if you go there.

    Of course . . .except for the above mentioned Vendue Inn . . .I can’t say we ever had a bad meal in Charleston . . .I was there for 5 years in the Navy and we’ve been back several times since for a visit.
